If you’re a Tesla owner, you’ve likely heard the following at some point from a non-electric vehicle (EV) owner: “How can you go on a road trip when charging takes so long? You’ll probably have to rent a gas-powered car anyway.” While it’s true that charging does take longer than filling up a tank of gas, road trips and long drives are more than possible with a Tesla. If you’re going on one for the first time, there are ways to make it easier for yourself and the passengers. Continue reading to see 5 tips to make travelling in your Tesla easy.

1) Plan Your Trip

Perhaps the most critical part of your journey is to use the built-in Tesla navigation. It maps out what Superchargers you should stop at along your journey, and also preconditions your vehicle’s battery for charging as you approach the station. It’ll also provide time estimates for each stop, and you’ll therefore get a good idea of how long the entire trip will take.

NOTE: While it’s best to sit in your car and punch in the address of your destination so that Tesla navigation maps everything out for you, there’s also an option to get a preview of the trip online. This can be done by using the Tesla Trip Planner.

2) Precondition

To have the most efficient drive possible, it’s important to Precondition the car, which prepares the vehicle’s battery so it’s ready to go when you depart. This can be done by opening the Tesla mobile app and selecting Climate > Turn On. It’s best to complete the Preconditioning while the car is plugged in, as it won’t deplete the battery in any way.

Additionally, it’s a good idea to charge to 100% before you depart. Depending on the type of battery your Tesla has, it’s not ideal to charge to this level every day. However, once in a while it’s more than okay to fully charge, such as before a long drive.

3) Packing Food

If you’re looking to store food efficiently, then Tesloid’s Frunk Cooler Food Bag is the way to go. These bags can be purchased for the Model 3 and Model Y and can help keep your food fresh for hours. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Quality Craftmanship: Keep your food fresh for hours. The Cooler Food Bag is made with durable fabrics with stuffing to handle maximum load and maintain its shape. It also has lift handles, an aux pocket, and dividers for your convenience.

5) Inspect the Tires

Tesla tires are subject to normal wear and tear just like any other car. Before starting your trip, be sure to check the pressure of the tires, and do a visual inspection of them to look for any cuts, punctures, bulges, and more.

The Bottom Line

That concludes the list of 5 tips to make travelling in your Tesla easy. In summary, use Tesla navigation, precondition your car, have the Tesla luggage and cooler bags to store your items as well as food, and do a thorough check of the tires before departing.
