If you own a Tesla and have left the car parked in the sun, then you know how hot the cabin can get, especially in the Summer. While you can always precondition the vehicle to decrease the interior temperature before your drive, there are other ways to keep the inside cool as well. Continue reading for steps on how to keep your Tesla Model 3 and Model Y cool during the Summer.
General Tips
There are several ways to keep the interior cabin cool during the Summer, which include:
- Parking Indoors: This one’s a no-brainer. If you’re able to park indoors, such as in a parking or residential garage, then your Tesla stays out of the sun. Of course, not all Tesla owners have this advantage, but if you’re able to, this is one of the best ways to do it.
- Window Venting: If you do have to park outside, window venting can help keep the inside cool. For example, the temperature in the cabin can often become higher than the actual outside climate since the heat is trapped in. Venting the windows will assist in balancing that temperature. You can do this by opening the Tesla app and tapping Climate > Vent. This will slightly lower each window.
- Cabin Overheat Protection: In the vehicle settings, you can enable this feature to prevent the cabin from getting excessively hot when the car is not in use. To activate, go to Controls > Safety > Cabin Overheat Protection and there are two options. On uses air conditioning to prevent the cabin from exceeding 40° C, whereas No A/C uses less energy while still providing some cooling by blowing outside air into the cabin.
Sunshade
One of the challenges of using features like Cabin Overheat Protection is that it can drain the battery quite a bit while the car is idle, especially if the A/C option is being used. So, is there a way to keep the interior cool without using the battery while parked outside? Enter the Roof Sunshade Screen from Tesloid, available for both the Model 3 and Model Y.
This product provides complete shade over the entire roof for protection against the sun, which also helps maintain inside temperatures. It’s easy to install or remove with provided clips, which can stay in place without the need to drill any holes or stick anything to the car. The sunshade comes with a mesh layer and a thermal reflective layer.
The Bottom Line
There are several ways on how to keep your Tesla Model 3 and Model Y cool during the Summer. Some general tips include parking indoors, using window venting, and enabling the Cabin Overheat Protection feature. Additionally, you can purchase a Sunshade from Tesloid to block out the sun from the interior of the car, which then helps to keep the cabin cool.
