Model Y Cargo Screen – Retractable

I recently added the retractable cargo screen to my Tesla Model Y, and I absolutely love it! The cargo screen came well packaged and without any damage. I did not notice any instructions in the package but it was quite self explanatory, especially after reviewing some on line videos. The most challenging part was to peel off the backing tape from the back of the 4 pieces that needed to be stuck to the car panels. Make sure you do a dry fit before peeling off the tape so you know where the pieces fit properly. Once installed, I found it fit very well and no issues. It is 100% better than the awkward folding cover supplied by Tesla.

Tesla should really put one of these in the model Y. No instructions whatsoever but when you try to install it, it is pretty intuitive. The pieces only really fit in one place each and they are molded in such a way that they kind of key into their appropriate positions. Make sure you clean the installation areas thoroughly with alcohol and take your time ensuring that the tape sticks properly. I also waited a little while for the tape to adhere before I put in the screen itself. The retractable screen is very good quality. It retracts smoothly and has some tension so it shouldn't bind at all. The pegs where it engages the back moulding could be slightly shorter so be a little careful when hooking it at the back. It's still a one handed operation though. This screen in my honest opinion is a must have for any Tesla model y owner. Tesla should've really included something like this instead of the cheap piece of junk that they call a cargo cover.

On my 2023 MYLR, if over the cargo section, the original hard-sectioned cargo cover doesn't lift easily to add items, and if partially open, its movement back and front is clunky. You can't leave it partially open and have the seat down without blocking long items from passing through. This Tesloid retractable cover is ideal. You can open and close it simply with a 1 handed pull, and pass long items through the seat back easily too. The plastic mounts follow the same form as the original car shape, and the adhesive seems to stay well. The torsion rod has a spring loaded adjustable end to snap it in or out of the mounts if you want to remove it for really boxy things that need to sit across onto the seat back. The tailgate end is held securely closed during travel, and the plastic mounts at that end actually grab onto the car's original plastic trim, plus use the adhesive tape, so there is an actual mechanical anchor to prevent it from tearing away under tension. Excellent design. I looked long and hard on the internet before I found this. Totally happy.

The install was easy but there weren’t any instructions. I also replaced the double side tape and bought adhesive promoter so it would stick without coming loose.

I purchased this cargo screen last fall and have no regrets buying it. The screen is easy to use and can be used as a shelf for light items. If you need to remove it to load bulky/large cargo, it pops out with no difficulty and pops right back in just as easily. I do like the added security it provides by keeping what ever you have in the trunk hidden. Easy to install. Keeps things out of sight & gives an overall clean look.
