How to Calibrate Tire Pressure in Your Tesla

Tesla Tire and Wheel

By: Otaiba Ahsan

One important thing to note for any Tesla owner is whether their vehicle has the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) equipped on all four tires. If they don’t, then it’s best practice to calibrate tire pressure after any adjustments are made. Continue reading for steps on how to calibrate tire pressure in your Tesla.

Recommended Tire Pressure

The door jam of any Tesla will display a sticker, and this should be used as the definitive source for your car’s correct pressure. It varies depending on the tire size, load, and wheel type. See an example from Teslarati.

However, for the Tesla Model 3, Y, S, and X, the recommended psi is 42 for most tire sizes, but in some cases can go up to 45. Lastly, for the Cybertruck, the recommended psi is 50 in almost all cases.

NOTE: See our comprehensive guide on how to check the tire pressure of your Tesla. Know how to do it, whether your car has a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) or not.

Calibrating Tire Pressure

Calibrating tire pressure only applies to vehicles that don’t have TPMS. After you’ve adjusted the tire pressure in your Tesla, or have changed, repaired, or rotated the tires, tire pressure calibration is required manually.

  1. Tire Pressures: First, ensure all four tire pressures are at their recommended psi.
  2. Calibrate: Next, when in your car tap Controls > Service > Tire Pressure > Calibrate Tire Pressure. A message on the screen will indicate that the system is ready to learn the new baseline.
  3. Drive: Calibration begins after driving over 25 km/h, and it happens faster with stable driving at higher speeds. Avoid hard accelerations and stop-and-go traffic.
  4. Complete: After driving for at least 20 minutes at over 25 km/h, the calibration will be complete.

The Bottom Line

The steps on how to calibrate tire pressure in your Tesla are easy. First, ensure all four tire pressures are at their recommended psi. Next, tap Controls > Service > Tire Pressure > Calibrate Tire Pressure. Begin driving, and calibration will begin when going over 25 km/h. Lastly, calibration will be complete after driving for at least 20 minutes at over 25 km/h.
