Something Tesla has hinted at for some time is the ability to power or charge other vehicles or objects using the sizeable battery of their cars. With the launch of the Cybertruck, the company finally introduced this feature, calling it Powershare. Continue reading for steps on how to use Powershare from the Tesla Cybertruck.
Where is the Outlet Located?
Before you begin powering other things, you’ll need to know where the outlets are located in the cargo bed of the car. We’ve created a detailed guide on how to access the cargo bed for the Cybertruck. Once you’re in, you’ll see an outlet cover on the left side. Pull the panel open to reveal:
- Two 120 V power outlets, which have a 20A maximum draw, combined.
- One 240V power outlet, with a 40A maximum draw, combined.
Tesla has provided a visual so you can see exactly where the outlets are in the cargo bed. The one used for Powershare is the 240 V outlet, also known as a dryer outlet. To enable the power outlets when sitting in your vehicle, tap Controls > Outlets & Mods and then toggle power to all AC outlets and each power feed.
What Can be Powered?
This exciting new feature allows you to bring power on the go, and adds an additional functionality to the car as you can get more from the battery. Here are a few use cases:
- Work Site: Use the outlet to power tools at any work site. Whether it’s an at-home construction project, or for your own business, this can certainly be of use.
- Other Electric Vehicles (EVs): Charge other EVs, of any brand. There may be times where your friend needs a little juice for his car, and the Cybertruck can provide a simple solution with Powershare.
- Camping: Don’t compromise on your next wilderness adventure. Use the 240 V outlet to power things like a microwave, heater, or anything you’d like to.
- Home: In the event of a power outage at your residence, in certain circumstances, the Cybertruck may be able to power your home.
When using Powershare, the Tesla app will display what it’s charging, the energy being consumed, as well as other statistics. You can remotely access all settings, and adjust preferences as needed.
The Bottom Line
The steps on how to use Powershare for the Tesla Cybertruck are straightforward. First, you’ll need to access the cargo bed, which we’ve linked a tutorial for above. Next, when in the car, tap Controls > Outlets & Mods and then toggle power to all AC outlets for each power feed. Once that’s complete, simply uncover the outlets, plug in what you need, and begin sharing power. You’ll be able to monitor everything remotely via the Tesla app.
