Having head supports with your seat can help to make a car ride more comfortable for everyone. When you take delivery of a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y, you’ll notice that the rear centre head support is positioned differently from the other two seats next to it. While it may look like it’s fixed into one place, it’s in fact adjustable. Continue reading for steps on how to raise or lower the rear centre head support in a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y.
How to Adjust the Rear Centre Head Support
In your Tesla, the front seats and second-row outboard seats include integrated head supports that cannot be adjusted. However, the rear centre head support can be raised, lowered or removed. The support should always be raised and locked into a position so that the centre is aligned with the occupant’s head for added comfort and safety. Of course, this only applies to those who are not in a car seat.
Focusing on the rear centre seat, here are the steps to adjust it:
- Raising the Support: You’ll notice that this specific head support is lower when you first sit in the car when compared to the seats closest to the door. That can be changed by simply putting your hand at the base of the support and pushing it up. It’ll then lock into place and be ready for anyone who is sitting in the middle.
- Lowering the Support: When the head support is raised, you’ll see a button at the base of the outer post. You can press this button and then push it down back to its original location.
Removing the Rear Centre Head Support
You can also completely remove the head support. Start by raising it using the steps above, then by pressing and holding the button at the base of the outer post. Lastly, insert a short, flat object such as a flat-head screwdriver, into the opening on the inside base of the left post, and pull the head support upward. It should come off easily.
To re-install it, simply line up the posts with the opening and put the head support back in. Press down until it clicks into place, then quickly pull on it to ensure that it’s locked and secured.
The Bottom Line
The steps on how to raise or lower the rear centre head support in a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y are simple. When the head support is in its normal position, place your hand at the base and push up until it locks into place. If you’d like to lower it, press the button at the base of the outer post and push it down until it’s back to its original location.
